No, your eyes don’t deceive you. Cole (Noah LaLonde) and Alex (Ashby Gentry) are actually talking to each other in this brand-new exclusive photo from My Life with the Walter Boys Season 3, premiering Aug. 6.

After that shocking Season 2 finale, this probably isn’t the first reunion you expected to see. After all, Cole and Jackie (Nikki Rodriguez), Alex’s girlfriend, declared their love for each other, and Alex overheard the confession just as an ambulance arrived to take their dad, George (Marc Blucas), to the hospital. And Gentry teases that Season 3 begins exactly where Season 2 left off: “Everyone’s reality has shattered a little bit, and they’re picking up the pieces of that and trying to put it back together again.”

With their love lives still hanging in the balance, Alex turns to his new rodeo riding team, and Cole gets back in the driver’s seat of his life, literally, when a race car driver sees potential in him. Meanwhile, Jackie pours her heart into developing the town’s community space.

Showrunner, creator, and executive producer Melanie Halsall tells Tudum that the season kicks off with an “emotional” first episode, and “a lot of this season, more than other seasons, is about growing up, maturing, and stepping up,” she says. While seeing the brothers on speaking terms might surprise viewers, Halsall says the series has always implied that Cole and Alex used to be close, and are actually quite similar.

Halsall describes both brothers as “adrenaline junkies” and “competitive,” while LaLonde adds that, underneath everything, they really care about each other. “That’s been at the heart of all of this for three seasons now,” he says. With newfound perspective this season, “it kind of cuts through a lot of the BS,” he says, including their complicated feelings for Jackie.

What’s next for Cole and Alex in My Life with the Walter Boys Season 3?

As these brand-new photos reveal, both Alex and Cole channel their competitive streaks into new adrenaline-driven passions this season.

For Alex, that means digging his spurs in deeper as a full-blown member of the rodeo team at Hartford’s — and navigating all the fame and attention from girls that comes with it. “Alex matures more than anybody between Seasons 2 and 3,” says Halsall. “He’s on this upward trajectory.” He’s the youngest of a group of older professional riders. With that comes perks and attention, but also new expectations. “He’s 16 years old, and they’re all older than him. It’s a lot of pressure, what he’s doing.”

Meanwhile, Cole is finally getting behind the wheel — literally and figuratively. After coaching his former football team last season, Cole is trading the auto shop for the driver’s seat on the racetrack. “This season, we wanted to give him something for himself,” says Halsall. “Racing replaces the thrill he would get when he was playing football.”

What do these new photos suggest about where the love triangle picks up in My Life with the Walter Boys Season 3?

As Halsall teases, “the path of true love never runs smooth, especially in Silver Falls.” And as the new photos reveal, Jackie is spending some much-needed one-on-one time with both a shirtless Cole and a tank-wearing Alex.

Both Cole and Jackie are plagued by guilt for how they made Alex feel at the end of Season 2. “Cole hates himself for what he did to Alex, both with Paige (Madison Brydges) years ago, and with Jackie in Season 1,” explains Halsall. Though Cole tried to keep his feelings for Jackie to himself, “he’s mortified that Alex heard,” she says. “The last thing he wants to do is make it any worse.” Rodriguez says that Jackie, too, hates the thought of wounding Alex. “After everything that happens with George, she cares even more about not wanting to hurt anybody in the family or to be a problem.”

Gentry feels constantly torn playing Alex. “I feel this desire to stick up for him,” he says. “He almost feels like a little brother to me.” The actor believes that, much like the gap between Seasons 1 and 2, Alex spends time offscreen processing “anger and grief and heartbreak.” But Gentry admires the character’s layers that shine through amid his pain. “He works on the farm, he rides broncs, he goes to parties, is popular and famous — but he’s also a nerd, a bookworm, shy, and really romantic.”

What do the new My Life with the Walter Boys Season 3 photos reveal?

These photos offer an even closer look at Jackie, Cole, Alex, and the whole Walter family as they regroup. LaLonde shares that matriarch Katherine (Sarah Rafferty) becomes “such a guidepost” for the Walters. Meanwhile, ever the organized go-getter, Jackie is desperately trying to bring the family together. “There’s a part of her that feels like she’s responsible for what happened to George because she feels that she just messed everything up in those last few moments of Season 2,” says Halsall.

But just as Alex and Cole pursue new passions, Jackie begins embracing a bolder version of herself, something reflected in her brighter smile and more confident wardrobe. “Jackie has never put herself first, ever,” says Rodriguez. “I think that manifests in her being such a perfectionist people pleaser all the time and ultimately not making the decisions she wants to make. She tries to be this perfect version of herself and thinks about what everybody else wants. For the first time this season, she does start to put herself first.”

When will My Life with the Walter Boys Season 3 premiere?

The third season will premiere on Aug. 6. And a fun reminder: Cameras started rolling on Season 3 of the lovable teen drama before Season 2 even debuted last year! Watch Rodriguez, LaLonde, and Gentry as they shared the good news in the video below.

Who’s in the My Life with the Walter Boys Season 3 cast?

Rodriguez, LaLonde, Gentry, Rafferty, Blucas, Connor Stanhope (Danny), and Jaylan Evans (Skylar) will return as series regulars.

Recurring cast members include Corey Fogelmanis (Nathan), Johnny Link (Will), Isaac Arellanes (Isaac), Myles Perez (Lee), Alisha Newton (Erin), Mya Lowe (Kiley), Ellie O’Brien (Grace), Kolton Stewart (Dylan), Natalie Sharp (Blake), Alex Quijano (Richard), Ashley Tavares (Tara), Dean Petriw (Jordan), Alix West Lefler (Parker), Lennix James (Benny), and Gabrielle Jacinto (Olivia).

Who are the new My Life with the Walter Boys Season 3 cast members?

Three new characters are joining the My Life with the Walter Boys cast:

  • Chad Rook (IT: Welcome To Derry, Joe Pickett) as Mac. A cool drag racer who hires Cole to revamp the engine of one of his racing cars, Mac is impressed by Cole’s natural skills behind the wheel after seeing him take a spin on the track.
  • Naveen Paddock (Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Anything’s Possible) as EliotHandsome and charming with an air of New York sophistication, Eliot is Uncle Richard’s new intern. His arrival in Silver Falls puts Jackie in a tug-of-war between her old life and her new one.
  • Erin Karpluk (Being Erica, Smoke) as Hannah. George’s nomadic sister and mother of Isaac and Lee, Hannah is free-spirited or irresponsible as hell (take your pick). She left her sons to live with the Walters and then split for reasons unknown; when she shows up at the front door a thousand days later, she has a lot of bridges to rebuild.

What will happen in My Life with the Walter Boys Season 3?

Heading into Season 3, Halsall tells Tudum that she would love to see what happens between Jackie and Cole, and between Alex and Cole. “It was a pretty big revelation at the end of Season 2, and we can’t just ignore that,” she tells Tudum. “She also can’t keep bouncing between two boys. How we tackle that will be a really interesting challenge, and I’m looking forward to that.”

Along with his co-stars, Gentry certainly wants to know what will happen next for the trio. “I don’t know how they’re going to recover from all of this trauma that’s just ensued,” he says. “You want to talk about an elephant in the room, that’s a massive one.”

Halsall is also eager to see where the new romance between Kiley and Dylan goes. “I want to see what effect it has on Alex,” she says.

The showrunner also hasn’t forgotten about Jackie’s goal to become student body president. “We’ll look at that and how she deals with Alex and the fallout in the family,” she says. Halsall also knows the importance of Jackie nurturing her friendship with Grace going forward, after they had a heart-to-heart in the Season 2 finale in which Jackie admitted she took her best friend for granted. “Grace is the person that’s always on hand to help Jackie, but she doesn’t seem to have any needs of her own,” says Halsall. “She does have needs of her own, and it’s important for Jackie to realize that, too.”

While filming Season 1, Halsall told Tudum that she had high hopes for the series’ longevity. “I definitely still believe that,” she says. “I love the teenage stories and what we do with those characters. But I think we have a lot of potential to tell stories that are intergenerational. I’d love to be able to do more of that in Season 3.”

Some of those adult relationships Halsall is curious about include guidance counselor Tara’s dynamic with English teacher Nikhil (Moheb Jindran) and her flirtation with Jackie’s uncle Richard that was hinted at in the Season 1 finale. “That’s a storyline I’d really like to follow,” says Halsall. The creator also has potential storylines in mind for Will’s wife Hayley (Zoë Soul), who was mainly in Chile this season working on her master’s thesis, and Grace’s mom Joanne (Janet Kidder). “It was nice for Katherine to have a friend. I’d like to see more.”

Ultimately, Halsall teases, “there’s loads of potential.” All we have to say to that is “Yeehaw!”
