The race is on: A brand-new series set in the competitive world of high school rowing will make a splash on Sept. 10. Head back to campus alongside Miku Martineau, Sam Braun, and Kyle Clark with the exciting new trailer above.
From showrunner Vivian Lin, Crew Girl tells the story of Teagan Tao (Martineau), a gifted 16-year-old single sculler whose promising future is derailed by a family scandal. As Teagan puts it in the trailer, “My life, as I knew it, was over.”
“You can expect a lot of drama, a lot of abs, a lot of rowing,” Martineau said at Netflix’s End of Summer Bash Event. “Adolescence is messy, but it’s beautiful, and we navigate friendships and romances and a lot of family dynamics. I think a lot of people — young viewers, people in their 30s, 40s — will enjoy it. It’s such a good coming-of-age story.”

Forced to relocate to the East Coast with her mom Ella (Jessica Paré), Teagan hopes to have a fresh start at the prestigious Easton Prep. But once there, she finds that she’s not just the outcast newcomer — she’s stuck on land. There’s no girls’ rowing team at Easton. Her only way onto the water? Taking the helm as coxswain for Easton’s notoriously chaotic boys’ varsity crew.

Thrown into a world of wealth and ruthless competition, Teagan has to convince an entire team to trust her leadership — and each other. But it’s not always smooth sailing with her spandex-clad team.
As she fights to reclaim her rowing dreams, manage the chaos of the crew, and navigate her family’s growing troubles, Teagan finds herself caught between two boys in her boat. She’s torn between the school’s golden boy, Josh Regis (Braun), and Cam Dillinger (Clark), a quiet but fiercely determined local who refuses to be underestimated. Judging by the trailer — which shows the brawny bunch looking dapper in tuxes one moment, and crawling through the mud the next — it’s clear that Teagan has a tough choice to make.
Clark is excited for fans to learn more about the sport at the heart of the series. “There haven’t been too many things with rowing involved,” he says. “It’s exciting to bring that to the screen. People are going to be able to discover a really wonderful team sport. I think people will also fall in love with the rowers.”
The eight-episode series hits Netflix on Sept. 10.
“It’s an emotional roller coaster, but I think everybody’s just going to fall in love with the cast,” says Braun. “A large majority of us are all from Vancouver. We knew each other before starting the show, so the chemistry is so palpable.” Keep reading to learn who joins Braun, Clark, and Martineau in the boat.
