Ready for a heist? Creator of the Power Universe, Courtney A. Kemp, is bringing a new crime drama, Nemesis, to Netflix, and it promises a whole new world of high-stakes action and daring burglary. Co-created with Tani Marole, Nemesis is the first series in a new creative partnership between Kemp and Netflix.

You can check out the first-look images right now, including glimpses of the series’ lead characters, Detective Isaiah Stiles (Matthew Law) and heist mastermind Coltrane Wilder (Y’lan Noel). And you can watch the trailer here.

“Tani and I are excited to bring a hard-hitting psychological crime drama to Netflix, specific in location but broad in universal themes of right and wrong, love and loss, and loyalty vs. self-preservation,” Kemp said.

Read on to learn more about Nemesis, including a look at its ensemble cast and more about the cops and robbers that populate its criminal world.

A couple stands close together in a warm, cozy dining room, smiling at each other. The table behind them is set for a meal, with plates, glasses, and silverware, and sunlight streams through sheer curtains on the window.
A man sits on a brown leather couch in a living room, looking at papers and photographs on a coffee table. Sunlight filters through curtains, and the room appears cozy with a fan and various household items visible.

What is Nemesis about?

Nemesis is the story of two men on different sides of the law, the tale of what happens when an unstoppable force (an expert criminal) meets an immovable object (a brilliant police detective). What starts as a subversion of the heist genre, amped by thrilling life-or-death stakes, family dynamics, and explosive action, becomes an exploration of what drives us, sustains us, and ultimately destroys us.

Two young men stand face-to-face in a tense moment outdoors, surrounded by a cluttered, partially covered area with scattered debris, broken walls, and trees in the background.

“Viewers are in for a ride with Nemesis, Courtney and Tani’s bold take on the crime drama genre,” added Nne Ebong, Vice President of Studio Scripted Series at Netflix. “Courtney’s shows have proven to dominate [the] culture and conversation, and it’s exciting to have this be the first project from our creative partnership.”

A man in a black leather jacket sits on the edge of a white table indoors, with gloves on, looking serious. Assorted objects and food are spread on the table beside him. The room has soundproofed panels on the wall.

The first two episodes of the series will be directed by Mario Van Peebles (Baadasssss!, Outlaw Posse, Wu-Tang: An American Saga); he’ll also serve as an executive producer. Chris Selak and Philipp Barnett will also executive produce.
