What '90s family comedy are you living in? Twins don't actually switch places. This episode, Joe is trying to convince Maddie that his plan is gonna work.

[Joe] Do you know who might believe it? It's Reagan's attorney.

[Badgley] He proposes, "Become your sister for a short period of time." "Then you can have the life you wanted, have the man of your dreams, have your daughter, and all you have to do is be your sister for a little bit while I kill her."

[Joe grunts]

[yelps]

[Maddie] What did you do? 

Our brother-in-law is Ted fucking Bundy. 

After four seasons, we knew we needed to find a new dynamic for the cage. We really liked the idea of having identical twin sisters for Kate. And so when we realized that we could have twin sisters in the cage, it was kind of a no-brainer. 

He thought I was you. 

When we were auditioning actors for this role, a lot of the time, they would do a much better Maddie or a much better Reagan. So it was a real fun challenge, and we were so grateful to find Anna, who could do both. 

Why is that so absurd to you, to think that I could be you? Because if you could, honey, you would have already. [chuckles] 

This was a scene that I was excited about for a long time. I knew that the scene was coming up. I obviously have to learn both sets of dialogue. And it's really interesting shooting it because the timing has to work out. So you kind of have to rehearse both parts and get the timing with my double. So that way, when we're shooting each side, it coincides with, like, how fast I'm talking or how slow I'm talking, if I'm taking a breath or a beat. 

From a technical aspect, it's a high degree of difficulty. So we needed an actor with a lot of experience, which, again, someone like Anna has.

I'd have to remember where I was sitting, how I was looking up at the other twin that was me, and then put myself into the other person's shoes looking back. It's really like a trippy experience, to be totally honest. 

You gaslighting bitch!

[Anna] It's one of the longest days I think I've had on a set. It was a really big challenge, but also, it was really exciting.

[cackling]

What?

He thinks you could be me?

You see on Reagan's face this laughter that comes into her. It's cruel. You see on Maddie's face how that makes her feel, and you realize how abused she's been her whole life by her sister. 

Your husband loves me. Your child came out of my birth canal. Everything you have should be mine. 

When Maddie is standing up to Reagan, it's cathartic, and it's building to what ultimately happens in the episode. 

Reagan finally pushes Maddie to murder. 

The one person in the whole world who was supposed to respect me, she respected me the least.

[dramatic sting] 

I've made it very, very clear that I am on your side. 

Teddy and Kate are in cahoots, and if Kate goes, it means Teddy has to go. And I think for Teddy, it means far more to leave, because I would go back to what life? 

Back to running a dog kennel. 

I'm so sorry. I lose everything. 

She doesn't lose much. And so Teddy is hell-bent on keeping Kate around and solidifying his position, 'cause he's smart.

 It is with a heavy heart that I-- 

Oh, spare us, Kate.

[dark music playing] We all know you're not sad to see me go.

[Charlotte] Kate is feeling really suspicious when she sees Reagan step down out of nowhere. She knows there's something up. 

What did you do? 

There is no way that Reagan would've rolled over like that. You have to have done something. The whole dynamic with her father was that he did things behind her back and monitored her at all times, and essentially kind of oversaw her whole life. And I think that she's beginning to realize that Joe is trying to do the same. 

We won. Why can't you be happy? 

Joe is hurt by the fact that Kate doesn't seem to appreciate what he's done for her. Kate's rebuffing of Joe is what tips him finally all the way towards Bronte.

 I don't … want you to go.

[Justin] She seems like someone who actually understands him, which is why he's primed to start an affair with her. 

Joe is so romantic. He's so convincing. He's a magnetic person. And when he shines his light on you, it's really intoxicating. 

I found the pages in your drawer. The most sensual, complex, beautiful things that someone could ever want to read about themselves. 

I guess this is when we first see that Bronte really does have feelings for Joe. And she even says, "I am not supposed to feel this way about you." 

Get the fuck out of here and stay away from her. I will not tell you twice. Do you understand? 

She's really moved by the way that he sees her and by the fact that he protected her from Clayton, and that's what primes her to be ready for an affair with him.

[Madeline] Joe wants to take care of her, and I don't think she's ever had that. And she's never probably allowed herself to. It's like, when she goes an inch with it, she's in.

[Bronte moans]
