Joey King: Hi, I’m Joey King.

Nicole Kidman: And I’m Nicole Kidman. 

Joey King: And we play a mother-daughter duo in the new Netflix movie, A Family Affair. 

Nicole Kidman: And today, we’ll be deciding if these Netflix shows and movies are safe for Mom … [laughs] … or not safe for Mom. What does that mean?

Joey King: SFM and NSFM. Like would you watch this with your mom? Or is it too spicy or scary or too dramatic?

Nicole Kidman: Right.

[laughs]

[TITLE CARD] SAFE FOR MOM OR NOT SAFE FOR MOM: A FAMILY AFFAIR

Nicole: I’m just gonna let you know, my mom will watch anything, so this is gonna be, like, “safe for Mom” pretty much the whole time. But let’s give it a go. 

Nicole Kidman: Bridgerton.

Joey King: I think my mom watched it.

Nicole Kidman: My mom’s definitely watched it. 

Joey King: I think my mom was like, “Those sex scenes were amazing.” 

Nicole Kidman: Yes. I’m not sure my mom said that …

[laughs]

Nicole Kidman: … but she watched it. 

Joey King: Bullet Train. Oh hey!

Nicole Kidman: Definitely safe for Mom.

Joey King: Safe for Mom. 

Nicole Kidman: Except some of the violence. That’s the one thing —

Joey King: Yeah, safe for Mom. Not safe for everyone perhaps? [laughs]

Joey King. Yeah.

Nicole Kidman: [laughs] Exactly.

Joey King: Love Is Blind. I think so.

Nicole Kidman: Yeah. My mom. Not safe for my daughter.

Joey King: Yeah. Not safe [laughs] I wouldn’t watch that with a lot of my friends’ moms, but I’d watch it with my mom.

Nicole Kidman: Exactly.

Joey King: For sure. The Conjuring. Honestly, I’m gonna go NSFM, because not just it’s not safe for Mom, it’s not safe for me, it’s not safe for anyone. This movie is the scariest thing I’ve ever seen, and I was in it. And it still scares the **** out of me.

Nicole Kidman: I’m gonna go safe for Mom, because you gotta see it. ’Cause I love scary movies.

Joey King: [laughs] I don’t. 

Nicole Kidman: And I told you, everything’s safe for Mom. Everything’s safe for Mom. Everything’s safe for Mom. 

Joey King: Bird Box. Love.

Nicole Kidman: Safe for Mom. Yeah. Love that movie. I told you, I’m going 100%. 

Joey King: The Kissing Booth 1 and 2.

Nicole Kidman: Safe for everyone.

Joey King: I’m gonna say not safe for Mom.

[both laugh] 

Joey King: There’s a lot of teen drinking and scandalous behavior. So …

Nicole Kidman: As though she doesn’t know that.

Joey King: [laughs] I know she knows that. A Family Affair. 

Nicole Kidman: Definitely safe for Mom.

Joey King: Honestly, a requirement for Mom.

Nicole Kidman: Yeah. Made for everyone. It’s a family affair. It’s a family affair.

Joey King: Sex and the City.

Nicole Kidman: Made for Mom.

Joey King: Made for Mom. [laughs]

Nicole: M … MFM. 

Joey King: I couldn’t figure out the acronym. What do you love watching with your mom? 

Nicole Kidman: I like watching, uh, old movies, and I love watching documentaries with her, and I love her analysis of films. Because she’s incredibly smart, and she’ll give me a new perspective on things. And she really absorbs things. Like, she doesn’t kind of half watch …

Joey King: Mmhm.

Nicole Kidman: … she watches. And that’s what I grew up in, a household where there was always conversation. 

Joey King: That’s a great answer. I like watching movies with my mom that I’ve seen before that I know that she might not like. [laughs]

Joey King: I wanna introduce her to something. Yeah. I think that by me thinking she might not like it, is me underestimating, like, what she may or may not like. And sometimes she surprises me, and she's like, “Oh, I loved it.” Other times, she's like, “I didn’t like it.” Then we have a thoughtful conversation. Yeah.

Nicole Kidman: And you’re very close to your mom.

Joey King: I am, yeah.

Nicole Kidman: And I’m very close to my mom.

Joey King: Yeah. What is not safe for your mom? That's something — you and I are very, like —

Nicole Kidman: We’re out there.

Joey King: We’re out there. And I’ve never had restrictions on what I could watch as a kid. Like, I watched everything.

Nicole Kidman:  A lot of Quentin Tarantino’s films, I’d be like, “Mom, be careful,” ’cause she does have a thing now with violence, so she’ll be like, “Eeh!” 

Joey King: Anything where a dog gets hurt, my mom can’t watch.
