Actor Steve Howey has a penchant for playing big-hearted goofballs: Reba McEntire’s lovable son-in-law in her eponymous 2000s TV series, Kate Hudson’s love interest in not one but two romantic comedies, and a football pro who is in touch with his feelings on New Girl. Howey’s characters often exude good vibes, but his recently announced role in Ransom Canyon Season 2 sounds like it’ll be a little more complex.
While we don’t know much yet about Staten Kirkland’s (Josh Duhamel) half-brother Levi (Howey), a mountain man of sorts who lives off the land, we’re anticipating more of the series’ usual passion and complex family dynamics. Season 1 follows — among other small-town struggles — three rival ranching families and the epic romance between the stoic cowboy Staten and the community leader Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly). After that Season 1 cliffhanger, adding a new family member to the mix can only complicate things. But before Howey arrives (perhaps via horseback?) in Ransom Canyon, Texas, you can find him in these other series and movies on Netflix.

This 11-season dramatic comedy developed by John Wells (The West Wing, The Pitt) follows a family of lovable delinquents, the Gallaghers, and their friends and neighbors on Chicago’s South Side. Eldest daughter Fiona Gallagher (Emmy Rossum) does her best to wrangle her alcoholic father, Frank (William H. Macy), and raise her five unruly siblings — Lip (Jeremy Allen White), Ian (Cameron Monaghan), Carl (Ethan Cutkosky), Debbie (Emma Kenney), and Liam (Christian Isaiah) — with the help of her community. That includes their long-suffering best friends and neighbors, Kevin (Howey) and Veronica (Shanola Hampton). Justin Chatwin, Joan Cusack, and Noel Fisher also co-star.

Jamie Foxx leads this action comedy as a blue-collar father whose day job as a pool cleaner is just a front — he really hunts vampires. When he runs into money trouble, he considers rejoining the vampire hunter union but first must undergo a trial period overseen by union rep Dave Franco. Howey co-stars as another vampire hunter who works exclusively with his brother, played by Scott Adkins.

Workaholics stars Anders Holm, Adam Devine, and Blake Anderson reunite for Game Over, Man!, an action comedy about three housekeepers at a luxury hotel who thwart a terrorist attack. One of the terrorists, Rich (Howey), ends up under the trio’s control in a particularly … creative way. Sam Richardson, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Aya Cash, Neal McDonough, and Jamie Demetriou co-star.

When childhood best friends Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Liv (Kate Hudson) get engaged at the same time, they clash over who will get to have their shared dream wedding at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. Howey plays Liv’s fiancé, Daniel, a hedge fund manager who accepts his soon-to-be wife’s perfectionist streak. They’re joined in this romantic comedy by Chris Pratt, Kristen Johnston, Bryan Greenberg, Candice Bergen, and more.
