The stars were out alfresco-style for the Venice Film Festival premiere of director Noah Baumbach’s dark comedy White Noise. The world debut of the upcoming Netflix film at the Sala Grande kicked off the annual event on Aug. 31.

Adapted from Don DeLillo’s visionary 1985 novel of the same name, White Noise’s harrowing and comic plot springs from a chemical spill that unleashes a toxic cloud that looms over both the story and its characters. At the center of that cloud is Jack Gladney (Adam Driver), a professor of “Hitler Studies” wrestling with the life, death and absurdity of American suburbia. Alongside his wife, Babette (Greta Gerwig) and his four children, Jack searches for happiness as the world around him grows more and more uncertain.

At the film’s splashy premiere on the Lido, Baumbach was joined by his Marriage Story star Driver, as well as his Mistress America star (and real-life partner) Gerwig and Don Cheadle. Also in attendance at the A-list event were such notables as Hillary Clinton, Julianne Moore and Bridgerton’s Regé-Jean Page. All of whom (and more!) you can check out in our red carpet photo gallery. Netflix has three films in competition for Venice’s Golden Lion: In addition to White Noise, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Bardo and Andrew Dominik’s Blonde are in the running.
