Money Heist: Korea — Joint Economic Area is based on the Spanish series La casa de papel, aka Money Heist, which follows a group of robbers, recruited by an intelligent criminal mastermind, who pull off one of the biggest robberies ever when they break into the Spanish Mint and print their own treasure. Similarly, these masterful thieves from the North and South of a soon-to-be reunited Korea are recruited by their own mastermind, given names inspired by international cities (Berlin, Tokyo, Moscow, Denver, Nairobi, Rio, Helsinki, Oslo), in order to stay anonymous, and enter the mint tasked with printing the new currency for the new country.
