On this week’s We Have the Receipts, Life After Death’s Tyler Henry isn’t the only medium around.
During the episode, host Lauren Speed-Hamilton gets in on the psychic action, sharing her own experiences with the supernatural. One time when she was young, she tells Henry, she heard a voice telling her to come downstairs; she assumed the voice belonged to her grandmother, as they were the only two people in the house at the time. When she walked downstairs, her grandmother hadn’t called for her — but it was clear why someone had.
“My grandmother was cooking, but she didn’t realize that she had caught on fire,” she says. “So I was able to get there in time, help her, pat her down and everything.”
Afterwards, Speed-Hamilton says she began to hear more voices and “see little things” from the ages of 4 to 7. Eventually, she prayed that the ability would disappear, which it did. Henry says this is actually very typical — everyone has some “intuition,” he says, and children are very attuned to it. But as kids grow up and start to distinguish between reality and imagination, those beliefs can “push out” psychic impressions.
“Once the framework of belief is introduced — either, ‘Oh, it’s just in your head, it’s just a dream,’ or ‘Oh no, that’s bad, you need to follow this belief system’ — then it starts shutting those faculties down,” Henry says.
In the interview, Henry also shares more about how the show was made, including how he had to “convince” his boyfriend Clint Godwin to be a part of it. Plus, he reveals how his psychic process works, from getting rid of any mental distractions before a reading to leaving his work at the door after.
