What will go through Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins’s mind as he gets ready to tee off for his second attempt at golf’s Grand Slam

A new trailer for The Hawk reveals the answer. In keeping with Lonnie’s often chaotic playing style, he’ll be thinking of … the classic Chili’s Baby Back Ribs jingle. Will these beautiful harmonies, alongside dreams of barbecue-slathered ribs, help Hawkins land a hole-in-one? There’s only one way to find out.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to The Hawk (played by series creator Will Ferrell in his first television comedy). As the series theme song by Hot Goat Music plays, the new trailer takes us on a tour down Lonnie Lane: his passions (golf, bedazzled visors), his woes (a past failure in the final stretch of a grand slam), and his determination to redeem himself.

On prominent display in the trailer is Lonnie’s panther-emblazoned (don’t ask) tour bus, which will be hitting a number of stops on the East Coast over the next few weeks in advance of The Hawk’s debut on Netflix. You might even see Lonnie if you’re lucky. And, of course, you can follow his journey (including his friendship with Kim Kardashian) on his official Instagram account.

The new trailer introduces the cast of characters who surround the erstwhile pro, including his estranged wife, Stacy (Molly Shannon); his new caddie, Sam (Fortune Feimster); and his son/golf rival, Lance (Jimmy Tatro). “The guys are saying that I’m The Hawk now,” Lance tells his father. This prompts the elder Hawkins to make a urinal-side attempt at good old-fashioned intimidation.

But there’s more standing in Lonnie’s way than just his son — there’s Golden Fisk (Luke Wilson), the pro golfer who’s beaten Lonnie twice, and PGA TOUR board member Anton (Chris Parnell). To stroke his way to the finish line, Lonnie will need all his limited wits about him — along with a healthy dose of vintage Hawk style.

“I know it’s etiquette to be quiet out of respect,” he tells the audience at one point. “But what do you say today we make some fucking noise?”

The Hawk hits Netflix on July 16. As the theme song says: “Hawk yeah.”
